About Myself

Hello Again!

Well, in here I will tell you a little bit about myself.
Name: Sarmed AL-Najim
Born: 01-01-1978 in Sulaimania, Iraq.

Background:

I was born in Kurdistan, Northern Iraq. I lived in three cities in Iraq namely, Sulaimania, Basrah, and Baghdad. I left Iraq in 1991 and moved to live in Algeria which is a beautiful country. I lived in Oran City; Algria's second largest city in Algeria after the capital Algiers. In 1993 I moved to live in the UK, and have been living in London since then.

In 1998 I started my B.Sc. studies in Southampton University study and therefore had to move to Southampton at the south of England.
I graduated from the university on the 18th of July 2002 with a B.Sc. Honors Degree in Computer Science from the Department of Electronics and Computer Science - Faculty of Engineering. Even though it was very difficult at times, I did enjoy my course a lot, as I was continually learning more about the state-of-the-art computer technologies.

Currently, I am studying my M.Sc. course in Multimedia Computing at the School of Information Systems, Computing and Mathematics, at Brunel University
This course is excellent and I am really enjoying it as it has taught me so many skills and new technologies as far as multimedia and computer networking are concerned.
Through this M.Sc. I have learnt a lot of Java programming, XML and MPEG-7, compression standards (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MPEG-7 and MPEG-21), near-video-on-demand (NVOD), Java networking and distributed systems and Visual Basic 6, so overall it has been great.
I will be completing my M.Sc. in September 2006 and the official graduation ceremony will take place in June/July 2007.

At Southampton university I had joined the Capoiera Club which is a Brazilian martial art. This was great fun and a lot of excitement.
I had also joined the Mantis Kung Fu Club, which is also another type of Martial Arts "Chinese". The latter was more physical and a very good self-defense course.

Apart from the sports hobbies, I also enjoy many other things. I really enjoy listening to music and watching movies especially in cinemas with my friends. I am interested in theatre, and reading. I really enjoy playing chess and really enjoy using my computer and the Internet. I also collect stamps and coins from different countries and parts of the world.
